I just saw your post...What a great story! Now that's some beautiful audience interaction! No, it wasn't Stan Lee, it was Dave Teague. I think he has a different stage name though.
Do ypu recall if the huitarist was Stan Lee? The last time the Dickies played in Seattle they played at EXP, the Experience Music Project aka the Jimi Hendrix Museum. That weekend there was also a 'FREE TIBET" exibiyion going on in the Seattle Center across from EXP. I wnet in and bought a post card of the Dali Lama as The Dickies current album had a song on it, WHACK THE DALI LAMA'. My uncle and I went into their sound check and I yelled to Stan and he wave me up to the stage. As I was crawling over barricades to get to the stage, 4 security guards came running towards me. I handed Stan my post card and he signed it, "Whack him! Stan Lee" Asked if they were doing JIM BOWIE that evening and he said no, but played it for me as the security guards were escorting me out and locking the door behind me. My uncle thought the whole scenrio was hilarious and wished he would have gotten pictures. The next morning, US BOMBS was playing outside and I looked to my right and Stan and Leonard were standing next to me. Was a great weekend.
Hi there, I just had to share this little bit of trivia with you. I entered "The Dickies" in the search box and your post came up about how they replaced Frank in your concert going. Last month I got into a conversation with a fellow who wound up being the guitarist for the dickies. He was a genuinely likeable guy who also happens to be a ZPZ fan. He's been to 3 shows and as I told Squid Decor (another Dickies fan) he delivered pizza to the Zappas for many years. He is quite knowlegable about the whole Laurel Canyon scene. I told him about this site but I'm not sure if he is here. Just thought I'd share that with you.
Good question, I've got a bunch of points and have never seen anything yet on what we can get for them, but hey I'm having a blast here so I guess I really don't mind. I'm just glad Dweezil set this up so fans could do this-our own Zappa cyberspace!
On Brett's guitars, there so many, you should check out the web site. I think his collection should eventually be in a museum. www.BrettAllenStudioRental.com
Keith Moon. My son, a young drummer, thinks Moonie is nuts for the drumming not the stunts lol. It is a shame so many bright lights burnt out like he did.
The Moon book is very good. I found It somewhat disturbing at times as when he would go through the jewish neighborhoods in a staff car dressed like Hitler and other questionalble stunts. I suppose that was the epitome of the 'Keith Moon charm'. He was and is still my favorite drummer and too bad he left so quickly. I recently mailed it to my bass player friend back east. It's quite a thick book and I figure I'd never have time to read it again.
Welcome! How is that book on Keith Moon?... One of my greatest regrets, I once worked at the Record Plant in L.A. I was just a runner, Keith walked up to me and asked me if I wanted to go for a drink...I was working, I had to say no...D*m it!
