Sorry I missed you last night! Did not realize (or think about) the fact that you might be there. Jonas and Tobias also there from Dweezilla.....need to keep you on the radar a bit better - tickets go on sale Friday for the Birchemere July 8.
Wow George, that is LONG time with out changing tubes given all those gigs.... if you play up to 50 gigs a year and play at mid to high volume, then yes, at least once a year get your tubes changed and re-biased (if necessary) and you will be amazed at how much better you sound... Mullards are good tubes... In the Mesa Maverick, don't put the gain up too high to start with (at low volume), instead start low and increase, you will find a "sweet spot" AND then crank the master volume... and tweak it.... too much gain at HIGH volume thins out the tone... really glad you are making sounds you love!!! Will you be at Dweezilla 2011? I plan to go...
Recently installed new tubes in the Mesa Maverick I gig with. According to my log I had not changed those tubes since 2001! I've been doing 30-35 gigs a year with this band since 2006 and 2010 has been our busiest year yet...
....I got some mid priced Mullard el 84s...
...the change is unbelievable....I think I may, after 20 years, finally understand how to use this amp..
At your suggestion from Dweezilla I tried the overdrive channel with the pre and post volume controls way down and it finally sounds musical....thanks for the advice!
I have a record with Alan Haynes on a couple of songs with Uncle John Turner and Johnny Winter. Mostly rhythm guitar though ... would like to hear more..
Kirby Kelly plays on a Bugs Henderson recording I got several years ago. He recently won the "King of the Blues" competition sponsored by guitar Center. Dweezil was on the panel of judges.
Kirby claims to be part man and part monkey...I don't know!!??
George, I have not... there are some great and unsung players in DFW area and Fort Worth has produced some of the best, but mainly Austin-focsued.... you may have never heard of Alan Haynes, but he is one of the best (Jeff beck thinks so!), tastiest blues guitarists, every note in the right place...
Hi George, I def. have tickets for the Birchmere show! I don't think I have your phone #...
You didn't try to call me.....
