The 5th-very nice! The Marinsky recording is excellent, one of the better 5.1 mixes I've heard-no phase anomolies, the engineers did a great job. The Youtube link of the climax of the 2nd movement you posted is most excellent, Thank You!
Picked up Shostakovich 2nd & 11th Symphony-Valery Gergiev conducting Marinsky Orchestra-Hybrid SACD-fantastic!
Hey Stephen, Thanks for posting on "My Favorite Classical Recording" Nice links...I did not realize Sir Charles MacKerras had passed, were these Janacek recordings fairly recent before his death? The Vienna Philharmonic...My Favorite all time Orchestra.
I didn't know Philips had put the great ballet scores together on a buget disc, back in the day for me...that was my favorite.
Since the demise of most brick and mortar record stores in L.A. we only have Ameoba and a few others but no dedicated ones like Tower use to have and even the Virgin Mega stores couldn't make it here. There's only Amazon and Archive Records.
After working part time at one of the Tower stores here before they went under-I amassed more CD's through purchase and promos then I could probably listen to the rest of my life...Still find something new once in a while worth getting though.
Hi Stephen, lovely to meet you here, welcome to the place where we all fit.
