dOily

Hello boys and girls,

In just a few days I will be signing outta here to go ‘bush’ for a while. I thought I might fill youse in on what exactly I’ve been gabbing on about for a while now.

Some of you may have heard me mention the Shitbox Rally and possibly have wondered what I was talking about (quite possibly not too!)

The s**t box rally is a worthy cause, to raise the old cashola for cancer research – something which has taken a few in my family.

After purchasing an $800 car (there was a $1,000 limit on the purchase price of a fully registered vehicle hence the name Shitbox), 120 cars alike will depart Brisbane city at 9am, May 21st and arrive sometime the next weekend in Darwin – yes, a really long way! To assist us on our journey, we have an orange 1979 Holden Kingswood Hz station wagon (an Aussie motoring icon or fossil).

It will be an Aussie outback camping adventure, complete with insects, spiders, snakes, crocs yet some amazing scenery too! The stops on our itinerary (weather pending, fingers crossed there’s no flooding!) are;

Queensland: Brisbane – Mitchell – Longreach – Gregory Downs

Northern Territory:  Hells Gate roadhouse, -16.183024, 136.252441900 (yep, no name for this stop), Nathan River Road, Katherine Gorge, Jabiru and Darwin.

Hopefully my team make it in one piece. If the car carks it, we’ll just hitch a ride with one of the other crappy cars and get the ranga towed to Darwin – that’s the way it works! At the end, all vehicles are auctioned off and the proceedings donated to the Cancer Council Australia. So far all teams have raised $575,104 collectively and funds continue to roll in.

If you feel the need for a sticky go to http://www.shitboxrally.com.au/ for a gander. It’s going to be the ride of a lifetime! I might even get some pics to post here too.

ahh Doily thank you. Over hear we don't use ranga...we say ginge. And a sticky is a jook. 'Fraid the only Oz I know is 'fair dinkum', 'schooner' and 'pom'. My cousins live in Sydney and used to use a term like 'rare prawn' or something like that but that was way back in the 70's. Have fun on the trip and take care.
