Just back from an amazing weekend in Liverpool  My first holiday away from family responsibilities since 1987 - business and training trips don't really count.

Friday I flew into Liverpool from Oslo and after settling in went straight to The Cavern Club - not quite birthplace of the Beatles as that was probably Hamburg - but a legendary place and a significant part of The Story.  Anyway, I had a beer and listened to guy singing Beatles hits (though he did slip in an Oasis song for some reason.

Next day I went on the famous ferry cross the Mersey - Gerry Marsden's equally famous song playing loud as the boat left.  And of course visited the Beatles Story museum/experience.  If you ever visit Liverpool you should definitely go there.

The Beatles were probably the first band I really listened to - I was about 8 when they Beatlemania took hold and I remember waiting patiently for the special BBC shows featuring the band (or "group" as they were called then)  and the top 20 show every Sunday evening to catch the latest releases.

So for me, The Beatles experience was a special part of the weekend.

But to the main event and the DZPZ show at the Echo Arena.  I was supposed to meet up with John, Carol and Ciaran but unforunately started to feel pretty unwell Sunday afternoon.  well attending the show was the main point of the trip so it was no problem forcing myself to go.

The setlist is on a separate part of the site so I won't repeat it here nor will I attempt a full review.  Dweezil delivered some great solos and the group (or band as we call them now!) have developed a great deal since I saw them last year in Oslo.  I think the major change has been Ben emergining as a star performer - close to being a frontman perhaps (no offence Dweezil!).  And its also good to see a lot of Zappa humour going into the performances.

Finally it was a thrill to meet Dweezil after the show.  And I look forward to the next one.

Back home now and back to reality and work tomorrow.  I've been away for over two weeks so the first task will be to read all the emails - I normally expect to have 400 or so when I get back from vacation.

Regards to all.
