Dweezilla 2011 Itinerary:

Monday: 7/25

3:00-4:00pm: Camper Check-In

4:00-5:30pm: Opening Class with Dweezil Zappa in the Barn

5:30-6:30pm: Welcoming Social on the Front Lawn

6:30-8:00pm: Dinner in the tent

8:30-10:30pm: DZPZ Performance in the tent

8:30-11:00pm: Café, Barn, Practice Tent and Yurt open for practice and jam sessions.

Tuesday: 7/26

8:30-10:00am: Breakfast in the tent

10:30-11:30am: Theory Part One:

· Billy Hulting- Beginner - rhythms, time signatures, rhythmic notation in Barn

· Scheila Gonzalez and Jamie Kime - Advanced Theory in the Performance Space

11:45am-1:15pm: Master Class with Dweezil Zappa: Part One- in the Barn

1:30-2:30pm: Lunch in the tent

2:45-3:45pm:

Billy Hulting - Percussion - a class focusing on Brazilian and Cuban hand percussion in the Café

Pete Griffin - Bass studies - for bass players. Topics include technique, exercises, and concepts such as a bass-player's approach to odd-meters in the Performance Space

Jamie Kime – Guitar Workshop in the Barn

4:00-5:00pm:

· Chris Norton - Sound Sculpture - building and creating sounds with computers and keyboards! In the Performance Space

· Joe Travers- Odd Time & Basic Polyrhythms In the Barn - Joe will be playing examples of recorded performances for purposes of discussion plus playing live on kit as well along with tracks.

5:15-6:15pm

· Billy Hulting- Your Brain and Music In the Barn- this is the class on the games, tricks, and jokes that your mind plays that interrupt the flow of creativity. Class will focus on getting past the psychological barriers to opening up your playing. Class will also focus on practice technique, interacting with other musicians, and how to have more fun playing!

· Ben Thomas & Scheila Gonzalez - Musical Chairs – in the Performance Space. Being a versatile musician keeps things interesting and can lead to more opportunities. During this interactive class we will share our experiences as multi-instrumentalists and invite you to join in on the fun (sweat bands optional.)

6:30-8:00pm: Dinner in the tent

8:00-9:30pm: Fractal Demonstration in the Barn

9:00-11pm: Camper and ZPZ jam with full cash bar in the Performance Space

Café, Barn, Practice Tent and Yurt open for practice and jam sessions

11pm-1am: Open Mic, Campfire and Cash Bar in the Performance Space

Wednesday: 7/27

8:30-10:00 Breakfast in the tent

10:30- 11:30am – Theory Part Two:

· Billy Hulting - Beginner - scales, key signatures, and clefs in the Barn

· Scheila Gonalez & Jamie Kime- Advanced Theory in the Performance Space

11:45am-1:15pm: Master Class with Dweezil Zappa: Part Two- in the Barn

1:30-2:30: Lunch in the tent

2:45-3:45pm:

· Joe Travers – in the Barn- drum clinic style that will include live performance with tracks, & discussion of all things drums including tuning, soloing concepts, double-bass technique and discussing music styles. Lots of question & answer opportunities.

· Ben Thomas & Scheila Gonzalez- Wind & Voice- In the Café- It all starts with the breath. Discussion, demonstration and practice of proper warm-up techniques for beginning to advanced vocalists as well as woodwind and brass players. Improve your breath support, learn to project and sing/play with more strength and dynamics.

4:00-5:00pm:·

Pete Griffin- Beginning improvisation in the Performance Space- Soloing for non-soloists! If you are a beginning soloist or are completely terrified of soloing, Pete will show you how fun it is and how you can get your improv ideas flowing

· Jamie Kime - Advanced Soloing Techniques in the Barn- more advanced theory of soloing scales and techniques

· Chris Norton- Keyboard playing in the Cafe- Focusing on techniques such as practicing, building chops, playing in a band and more.

5:15-6:15pm: Master class with Flo & Eddie in the Barn

6:30-7:30: Paul Reed Smith Guitars Demonstration in the performance Space

7:45-9:15pm: Awards Dinner in the Tent

9:30-11:30pm: Open DZPZ rehearsal in the Tent

9:30pm-1:00am: Camper jam, campfire and full cash bar in the Performance Space

Thursday: 7/28

8:30-10:00am: Breakfast in the tent

10:30- 11:30am - Theory Part Three

· Billy Hulting - Beginner – chords in the Barn

· Scheila Gonalez & Jamie Kime- Advanced Theory in the Performance Space

11:45am-1:15pm Master Class with Dweezil Zappa: Part Three- in the Barn with special guest from Godlyke Distributing

1:30-2:30pm: Lunch in the tent

2:30-3:30pm: Classic Guitar Tone Secrets by J. Santiago of Voodoo Lab in the Performance Space. This is a rare opportunity to listen to and dissect high-resolution transfers from the tape vaults of Motown, Hendrix, Steely Dan, Eric Johnson, Van Halen, The Allman Brothers and more.

3:30-4:30pm: Flo and Eddie Master Class in the Barn

4:30-6:00pm: Free Time & Jamming

6:00pm: Campers depart for Bearsville Theater

7:00pm: Dinner at the Bearsville Theatre

9:00pm: DZPZ Concert at the Bearsville Theater (tickets included in tuition!)

Friday: 7/29
