Ya know now that reminds me of a time about 10 yrs. ago my 2 boys who were about 20&21 at the time. Thay and some friends were enjoying a bon fire out back music blasting. When i step in and try to convert them to GOOD music which i have failed at miserably. Well anyway i put some Frank on. Then when my wife came out back to check on things Well lets just say harder than you'r husband was playing at the time. The rest of the nite did not go so well!
@ Phil bamboozled always been a favorite of mine. But my wife would not like them shananagins very much either. I'm so sorry for you'r delima. Cool story though!
Fruie I'm the victim of a Zappa divorce ! I spent a lot of the day in kitchener hanging out with Ray White, during the show Ray White with ZpZ belted out Bamboozled by Love, our relationship changed forever, is there no humour in music?
Funny though the year before Ray White and I sang bamboozled outside DZ's bus while she sat in the limo .... I don't think she was too impressed then either !
I carry the Z WORD in high regards with me at all times. What am i to do only talk to myself to get it into a conversation. Well trouble comin eveyday. You see it's like this i live with a woman...my wife of 32yrs. (an i luv her) but not only does she not like any FZ,DZ,MZ or any Z word, She HATES them!!! We kid around about it alot, And she's a basher too, she always says this one and it gets tiring. WHO the F would name their F. A. King kids Dweezil & Moon something or other. But in the long run she always lets and encourages me to take in any concerts i wish. When i got the dough! Life is Good! O well i say to all ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ'S to you. My youngest grandaughter would say, yeahhh and nobody cares! Peace Out.
I was once at Ross waiting for someone who was in the changing room when an older drunk (at noon) gentleman came over to me. "You Know what? You look like Peter Frampton, (I dont, I promise) you know hes my wifes favorite singer." I responded casually something like, "Oh thats nice.". He continued, "My favorite actor is (I cant remember his first atempt at remembering)... No its not its Clint Eastwood. Who's Your Favorite musician?" "Frank Zappa" "Frank Zappa? Well S**t he's dead." Turns to a woman near by, "He likes Frank Zappa." This woman obviously didn't know of FZ. Then a security guard came over to him, "Hows it going Big Bruce?" Big Bruce answered, then turned to me and pointed out, "He calls me Big Bruce". Big Bruce then continued to speak with the security guard, leaving me to once again wait.
This is the funniest thing to ever happen to me when mentioning the "Z" word.
wow Hall of Fame weekend on the Radio and the DJ introduces FZ and played he Joes Garage ... cool ! following the song the DJ went on " I should explain to you who FZ was .... " and he mentioned the huge collection of material, the song writing ability and his political activism .... he finished off saying "we could use a guy like that around today" ....... ahhhhhh YA .... but great to hear FZ up here on the radio 97.7 HTZ FM
Another Zappa-related thing that was pretty good was when I went to the local CD store and asked the girl behind the counter if they had Zappa CDs they could order for me and I asked her which ones, and you should've seen the looks this girl was making while reading some titles like Burnt Weeny Sandwich, Weasels Ripped My Flesh, Chunga's Revenge and some other of the more bizarre titles... it was a very funny moment, for me at least.
When the DavidLetterman show has new skit(or whatever they are called) PaulShaffer will sometimes write a little diddy based on another song. About a year ago I saw one called 'People and their Vegetables' . Paul kept singing- 'people and their vegetables!' Over and over-with the band in tow. The notes were different but the tempo and progression was from 'CallAnyVegetable'. I was a little shocked, but then I remembered Paul was musical director on SNL when FZ was on in 76'&78'. Way to go Paul! nice tribute.
I believe he's one of those folks who thinks his opinion is the right one. The type of ego I'd imagine one gets after having worked with John Cage very closely.
wow..How can this person even claim to be a professor of music when he interjects his own personal opinions? He should be reported...that does not sound like teaching to me.
I'm in a music theory class this semester and I had a music history/music appreciation class last semester. Both are taught by the same professor. The first day of class when I had the history/appreciation class, he aksed people to name composers from different eras (the class focused on Classical music). When he got to the Modern era I was thinking I could either say Holst or Zappa. Being the fan I am, I said Zappa and he looked me dead in the eyes and said "Wrong." I couldn't believe it. But then he said he pretty much dislikes music in general (which is outrageous). So now I bring up music I know he hates and knows little to nothing about when we talk one on one. I mentioned how "Toads of the Short Forest" has all the different time signatures and he said "Well, he just wanted to make noise" He's got a very outsider opinion on everything. A bit off topic but he saw I was reading a book on Thelonious Monk and he asked what type of jazz Monk played and I told him be-bop. He said "that's just playing as many notes as you can in as little amount of time, right?" My blood was boiling. I just want him to hear The Yellow Shark a…Read more

@ the Football house I go to,I'm always talking about the latest ZPZ tour info or something along those lines. The same guy always yells out; 'How could anyone name their kids -Dweezil and Moon Unit?! @Phil - any openings at your place of business.
A young friend of mine (24 yrs old) who I had turned on to Frank told me that when he was a kid ,he remembered that whenever the name of Zappa came up amongst his parents friends they would all roll their eyes in a disaproving way.
I think we are all defenders of the "Z" word ..... I had Dumb all over cranked at work today, followed by the entire Apostrophe, finished of the day with Joes Garage and I wonder why they moved me from my old office !
Sic as it was at that time. It sure was funny, Humor do belong in Music!!!
