If that were not enough at the end of this first day of NHL Hockey in 2012 the NY Rangers remained atop the league. The NY Rangers have 52 points in 37 games played, followed by the Chicago Blackawks who also have 52 points in 39 games played.
Hockey was my fav sport on this day! We did a pre-game AC/DC set.
I did stay for some of the game. It was really fun. Ice girls, crazy dancing t-shirt guy, suit of armor mascot skating around during breaks and one fight! I even saw the puck clear the glass and land in someones nachos.
Before the people were let in, I played a little Dirty Love on my bass to warm up my fingers. It echoed through the empty arena.
TUNOSHNA, Russia -- A Russian jet carrying a top hockey team crashed into a river bank Wednesday while taking off in western Russia, killing 43 people and leaving two others critically injured, officials said.
The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said the Yak-42 crashed in sunny weather immediately after leaving an airport near the city of Yaroslavl, on the Volga River, 240 kilometres northeast of Moscow.
It said the plane was carrying the Lokomotiv hockey team from Yaroslavl to Minsk, the capital of Belarus, where it was to play Thursday against Dynamo Minsk in the opening game of the season of the Kontinental Hockey League. The ministry said it was carrying 45 people, including 37 passengers and eight crew, and two people survived the crash.
My thoughts go out to the family and friends of all involved with this tragedy. Reports are still sketchy as to who was on the plane. I was fortunate enough to meet Ruslan Salei, Karl Skrastins and Pavol Demitra while they were playing in the NHL.

I got a chance to know Assistant Coach Igor Korolev a little bit during his time with the Chicago Blackhawks. He was an absolute gentleman. One of the memories that springs to mind was watching a documentary on the 2002 Nord-Ost Terrorist attack in Moscow. I remember him shaking his head and saying 'you never know' as he walked away. Those words are ringing in my head as I type this,
