One time in Billy's solo...
One time in Billy's solo...
This actually happened. In the June 2008 show in St Louis, in the middle of King Kong, during Billy's solo. This young woman (early twenties, I'd guess) approaches me and starts talking. Now that in itself would be strange enough. However she asks me, and I quote "If he killed an animal onstage, right now, would you leave?"
Now, I'm trying to give the soloist my attention, but I must admit, she kind of caught me by surprise. So I replied "What kind of animal?"
"A chicken" this young lady says.
"No", I said. "I'd stay"
"How 'bout a goat?" was the next thing out of her mouth.
"I know Billy likes to hit things, and hit them hard, but I think he's really a non-violent type." I told her. "I can't imagine that this would ever happen."
This whole exchange only took seconds, but I was starting to get creeped out. Besides, I'm trying to LISTEN to what the man is laying down. (Billy once told me that his solos are mostly the same and I didn't really miss much, but I think he might have just been saying that to make me feel better.)
As I'm turning to walk away from this person, she presents me with this final scenario. "Would you leave if he killed a baby?"
Yes, I left. I left her standing there talking to the poor guy who was next to me. By the time I got my head back in the show, Pete was up and I felt cheated for giving this person my attention.
p*s there a moral to this story? Don't talk to youg ladies at a ZPZ show during King Kong? I hope not. All I wanted to do was listen, but sometimes you just have to walk away.
