My Steinbergers (old and new)

Here are my 2 Steinbergers. The first is my baby, a 1988 Steinberger GL4T.

Stein Gl 1

I maintain that no other guitar plays as cleanly or as elegantly as these. I'll also note that Holdsworth appears to have returned to playing his Steinbergers (at least according to recent Youtube clips of him playing live).

Between 1993 and 2007 Steinberger was meticulously destroyed by its new owner, Gibson, who released a string of shoddy Asian models. Meanwhile Ned Steinberger went off and started making electric violins and cellos. However in 2008 things improved when Gibson brought Ned back on board.

Here is my 2010 Steinberger ZT3.

Stein Zt3

This guitar represents the "rebirth" of Steinberger. The ZT3 was designed by Ned Steinberger, and it shows.

This guitar is PHENOMENAL. I'll make the claim that this is the best factory-made guitar on the market today. The neck is divine, the transposing tremelo is genius and the body design is amazing. Gibson have done an awful job marketing this instrument, and hence it is amazingly cheap - $1500 gets you a brand new one, and you can find a used one for under a grand.

If you have never played a ZT3, I highly recommend trying one.

ZT3 is pretty much my dream guitar.

Manning B: I'm very interested in acquiring a Berger. But, what to do? New one or look for a used 1980's one?  After owning your ZT-3 for awhile now, have you found anything you don't like about it?  I'm worried parts may be hard to find for that fancy bridge, if Gibson kill it off or something.

p*s it hard to set up, any harder than say, a Floyd Rose?

I'm one of those irritable perfect pitch guys, so the idea of a rigid-necked guitar with a really well-designed trem, zero fret etc. has always appealed to me.  Have you found any tuning stability/setup issues?

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Chris

I wish I could locate my Steinberger. Candy apple red. Beautiful. I think my brother may have it at the moment. Wonderful sound, and a drop tuning switch. Love that bass!
