Favorite thing for today 3 -16 - 10

I got a message sent to me today from a guy named Chris Acosta. He shared a story about my dad I had never heard. I have no way to confirm it's accuracy but it's a nice story. Here it is:

Subject: Your Dad helped me out

I'm in my 40's now, but when I was 15 I ran away from home. I was on the streets in Hollywood rummaging through a dumpster for anything I could eat or sell for money to eat. With no money and feeling desperate - I decided if I didn't find something, I was going to have to resort to stealing. I had met some punkers who lived in an abandoned church and they would break into cars and other crap to get by, but I didn't fell right about that. Anyway, While going through a trash can at a local business - a man drove up and asked me what I was doing; I told him. He asked me how old I was and I told him. He gave me $40.00 - told me to eat and go back home. I had a good meal, crashed behind Gil Turners, and went home the next morning.

I remembered his face and a few years later realized it was Frank Zappa. I've never told anybody that story before, but the man made a difference for me and probably never thought twice about it. I'm sharing this now because my mother and I were talking about those days the other day and she told me that she was so distraught that she decided if I didn't come home that day - she was going to do something terrible.

It all worked out in the end.

Just thought I would share that with you.

P.S.
I got my tickets for the Jeff Beck show next month at Nokia - can't wait to see ZPZ!!

By the way, Chris thanks for sharing that story. I'm glad you got the help you help you needed at the time you needed it most, regardless of who it was. Life is tough and it's nice to know that there are people out there willing to help just because it's the right  thing to do. DZ

Thats a nice story you did the right thing listening and taking the advice and going home
i feel really sorry for the people you see on the streets, for some it must get to a point of no return and it must be real difficult to get back into society as we know it.
Enjoy the Jeff Beck ZPZ show i wish i was going.

Beautiful story. Very nice. I have a feeling it was Frank. I don't think Frank was a heartless human being. I never knew him but I always got the impression that Frank wasn't being cynical for glass half empty reasons. He was cautious for glass half full reasons.

I have no way of confirming it because I never met him, but I always got the feeling that FZ was only that cynical with the press. Who wouldn't be? Talking to reporters is painful.
