Music appreciation with kid's
My daughter had a friend sleep over last night and we played "air sculptures" on the guitar. Each of us came up with various themes and attempted to reproduce the "feeling" regardless of technique or structure. The kid's would tell me how the guitar should sound and we played around with tones.
Such classics as: Revenge of Baba Laba, Big Yellow Turtle, My Brain when it F***s, My Jacket and Fried Spider Legs were created. The kid's played all night. Next time they want to record.
Great fun!
Sounds cool..It's those things that make me wish that the wife and I had children..Your a lucky man nachtout. Get a flip video they are cheap got decent audio and have editing software included for around $150.00 and 2hrs recording time.
nachout, my son is blowing my mind right now, he's 9 and has been playing guitar (taught by me) for the past 14 months, he litteraly eats and breathes music, it started out with him playing smoke on the water endlessly until he got so good at it he joined my band on stage and played with us. well yesterday my Dad bought a cheap casio keyboard round to our house that he found while clearing out my recently deceased grandmothers house, my son took it up to his room and came down 5 minutes later playing smoke on the water, in the correct key and everything!...when i asked him how he figured out how to do it he simply said he looked at the guitar neck and figured out that the keyboard would be layed out in a similar way!!...he has never picked up or played a keyboard before and like me had no knowledge of music theory and cannot read music, i'm still amazed now and get him to keep playing it!
Tommy, my parents bought our kids a cheap casio this past Christmas. My 9 yr old tortures her older sister with smoke on the water, the hammond tone aint bad for a cheap keyboard. I often sing along with the FZ verse to add to the torture:-)
Isn't it nice to witness music appreciation from our kids? Keep Rocking!
That is so cool. I had the same experience with my son and he is now playing Pat Martino licks and Guthrie Govan stuff too. He has been playing for years years now this month!
My kids all like Kidz Cereal and Loser by Z. Haven't quite turned them on to Return of the Son of Shoogagoogagunga, but alas, nobody's perfect.
