Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Fest

I have no knowledge of the promotional side of this business, in terms of how artists become involved in various events, whether being asked by the host or promoter, or being solicited by an agent or themselves.

I am aware that Eric Clapton is once again holding his Crossroads Guitar Festival, benefiting his substance treatment center. I am not aware of the specifics, other than it will be held sometime in the summer of 2010.

The past events he has held, featured a vast array of extremely talented and diverse guitarists, spanning different musical genres.

To me, (and I'm sure many others), Dweezil is one of the premier, highly skilled and talented guitar players on the scene today, and I think he would make a wonderful addition to this years' line up.

Is there anything we fans could do to encourage Dweezils' participation in this event, or lobby Claptons' organization to extend an invitation?

One of the side benefits (to fans) of this type of event is not only to witness the high caliber of musicianship displayed by an individual artist, but also to witness the cross-polination of artists as they guest in each others' time slots.

I am not now, nor have I ever been, a Clapton fan (except for his Blind Faith days and current reunion with the great Stevie Winwood). That being said, I agree that Dweezil should be seen by a wider guitar oriented community -- he has become a master of technique and his solos are always provocative and probing. If Clapton was smart enough to invite Dweezil, he would have one more fan of the Crossroad Festival. Dweezil belongs.

I saw Buddy Guy perform last weekend in Chicago. He said the Crossroads festival would be in June 2010 at Toyota Park, which is in a Chicago suburb and the same location as last year. Buddy also said Santana will be on the bill and would play it his newly relocated blues club.

Would love to see Dweezil at Crossroads. He could play something from Chunga with Derek Trucks playing the Denny Walley parts.

We've contacted the Crossroads festival and they are not interested in Zappa Plays Zappa at this time. Maybe next time... who knows.

I am all for it! ZPZ is more than simply music. And I think lots of people who have never heard of FZ or even DZ's music would benefit greatly. Maybe a email campaign can help?!?
