"...on this particular radio station and that is segway one record into another buy I think it is appropriate to make this segway because these are two of my very favorite records and I think they should be heard as a pair. The first is 'The Closer You Are' by the Channels and this will lead directly into 'Hyperprisms' by Edgar Varesse"
plays record: 'The closer you are doo di ooo,,,'

"THE COVER
Contradiction. Painting a woman in madness. Living in a body that is not nurtured, but a body that is responsible to nurture. The body that creates life but cannot control the fate of that creation.
Sue Cole 1984"
FZ: "....Varese was a really cool guy. The only thing that he did that was wrong was that he stopped composing for 25 years because people gave him a bad time. If people wouldn't have given him a bad time he could have been writing for 25 more years and there would be 25 more years of stuff like that for people who like that kind of stuff. But most people don't so this is 'Jesus Just Left Chicago' by ZZ Top"
plays record......
This was a great show. I taped it in 1980 and still love it. I particularly like FZ comment during the rumbling part in Iron Man by Black Sabbath. BS was very unfashionable here in the UK in Jan 1980.
If you have more taped FZ shows or interviews let us know. I have an Interview with BBC radio 1s Nicky Campbell and a few other bits and pieces
plays record...... "Jesus just left Chicago
And He's bound for New Orleans.....
.....Workin' from one end to the other
And all points in between......
Took a jump through Mississippi
Well, muddy water turned to wine.......
Then I out to California through the forests and the pines
Oh, take me with You, Jesus......
You might not see him in person
But h**l see you just the same
You don't have to worry
'Cause takin' care of business is his name "

"Those little golden birdies, look at them
And the mystic Egypt tossle dangling down
Old sleeper-man shish, don't wake him
Up one hand broom star was an obi-man
Revered throughout the bone-knob land
His magic black purse slit creeped open
Let go flocks of them
Shish sookie singabus
Snored like a red merry-go-round horse
And an acid gold bar swirled up and down
Up and down, in back of the singabus
And the pantaloon duck, white goose neck, quacked
Webcore, webcore.".....
FZ "Well, you know what that means. And It's time... Oh that was Captain Beefheart in case you didn't know and prior to that was err ZZTop with 'Jesus Just Left Chicago and I don't know whether they play very much of err ZZTop kind of music in this country. Seems a little bit too robust for the countryside from what I've been able to detect. But if you go for that kind of stuff I recommend a song called The Mexican Blackbird on one of their other albums" aside "Have you heard that one? Oh there's a good line in there. You should check out The Mexican Blackbird. Now we have 'I Live In A Car' by The UK Subs"
plays record...
..."well i live in a car,
yeah i live in a car

(SEGWAY) plays 'Soul Motion' by Sugar Cane Harris.
FZ: "This is radio one and this is Frank Zappa and this is the best radio show you've ever heard in you're life and of course what wonderful radio show would be complete without a performance by Don Harris on violin and a bunch of guys in the background that you can just barely hear playing trombones and saxophones and stuff that I never knew was there until I put these earphones on (aside) can you hear it?
That is the weirdest mix I've ever heard in my life. They're in there. They must have spent another twenty five dollars to hire those guys and you can barely hear them. Anyway, that was called 'Soul Motion' and before that you heard 'I Live In A Car' by The UK Subs and in case you didn't know I chose all of these records because I like these songs for various err reasons and the next one...we're going to play two in a row again because these things should be heard together. This is 'All Tomorrow's Parties' by The Velvet Underground followed by the 'Royal March' from 'Lhistoire Du Soldat' by Egor Stravinsky. Take it away"
plays record
"And what costume shall the poor girl wear
To all tomorrow's parties
A hand-me-down dress from who knows where
To all tomorrow's parties
And where will she go and what shall she do
When midnight comes around
She'll turn once more to Sunday's clown
And cry behind the door
And what costume shall the poor girl wear
To all tomorrow's parties
Why silks and linens of yesterday's gowns
To all tomorrow's parties
And what will she do with Thursday's rags
When Monday comes around
She'll turn once more to Sunday's clown
And cry behind the door
And what costume shall the poor girl wear
To all tomorrow's parties
For Thursday's child is Sunday's clown
For whom none will go mourning
A blackened shroud, a hand-me-down gown
Of rags and silks, a costume
Fit for one who sits and cries
For all tomorrow's parties"

aie aie aie aie aie aie
I never used to cry 'cause I was all alone
For me, myself and I is all I've ever known
I never felt the need to have a hand to hold
In everything I do I take complete control
That's where I'm coming from
My Lucky Number's one
I've everthing I need to keep me satisfied
There's nothing you can do to make me change my mind
I'm having so much fun
My Lucky Number's one
Ah! Oh! Ah! Oh!
aie aie aie aie aie aie
I now detect an alien vibration here
There's something in the air besides the atmosphere
The object of the action is becoming clear
An imminent attack upon my heart I fear
The evidence is strong
My Lucky Number's rung
Ah! Oh! Ah! Oh! '
FZ: "And that was Lene Lovich with 'Luck Number' and before that you heard 'Iron Man' by Black Sabbath and now it's time for 'The Eurika Springs Garbage Lady' by The GTO's
