200 Motels

This probably isn't the proper place for such a request, but Zappa.com keeps losing my user name. Will 200 Motels ever be put on dvd? I guess it can be acquired overseas, but I'd rather put my money in the Zappa family's pants. I finally broke down and bought the cd, after years of hoping to get hold of the movie. VHS won't do it for me, need it on dvd. Haven't seen the movie since college, back about 1974.

Hey Jim,
I hope it will be officially released on DVD but it is tied up in some legal affairs and the actual components to manufacture it are involved in a little bit of a mystery. I'll keep you posted here if I find out any news.

It seems that Tony Palmer is about to release it next month:

Thanks for the tip, but I will continue to be wary of that source until someone else from the US buys it and reports in as to its playability. You live in Jargeau (presumably France), which is Region 2. I live in Eugene, Oregon, North America, which is Region 1. The dvd in question is Region 0, supposedly playable anywhere. Even so, it might not be. I once found a dvd of old Zappa alumni (Ike Willis was one of them; I forget who-all else) and thought I had a real find. I got home and slapped it into the home entertainment center and all I got was audio and a staticky light show. I took it back to the CD/Game Exchange, where I was informed that it was made for a European market. Even though it said Region 0, it didn't work in my equipment. They were at least kind enough to let me trade it for something else. So as much as I'd like 200 Motels on dvd, I think I'll wait for the Zappa Family-approved product. Thanks, though.

A thread about it on zappa.com:

I'd really love a Zappa Family-approved product with remastered picture and audio too, but is there gonna be any?
