Man dude you sure talk the talk about guitars. And i know you can walk the walk. I love to hear you play. what i love most is that you are just as much a perfectionist as Frank was. Ahhh like father like son i always say. I love reading you blog about guitars. Someday maby a Joe,steve, and Dweezil G3 now thats a moment !!!
peace out Fruie. (6/26/2012 rochester jazzfest) can't wait. p.s. i just recently found and joined dweezilzappaworld.com. And it's the bomb! ttyl
What kind of TLC does a guitar out of the Fender custom shop need to be up to touring status? I'm curious because I own a custom shop 59 strat relic that I love to play.
I would love to have the job at Fender beating the living crap out of perfect brand new guitars and calling them "reliced". What a stroke of marketing genius! To be able to sell all of the assembly line boo-boos and to do it for more money than the perfect models. I look for the good assembly line techs to get laid off in favor of the low cost bungling idiot who creates "relics" purely by accident! Suddenly the work place performance ratings paradigm shifts completely where the unsafe and unskilled moron is of more value in the board room and on the production floor than the skilled artisans we have all come to love and respect. Now there's a Kodak moment.
I went to a store in San Mateo with 1700 dollars in my pocket because I wanted a G&L. I tried some great guitars and they all played wonderfully. Then I picked up a sunburst Korean made Legacy (strat style) and plugged it in the mini cube they let me use. it was instant Rory Gallagher Walk on Hot Coals! it was only 400 bucks. I bought it and the amp too! then a year later my brother said he found a Les Paul Copy made by Electra in the Trash. (He lives in Austin and that is common there) He sent it to me and it's got tiger stripe maple finish with black blocks on the neck. Amazing what you can get cheap or free.
Nice looking Strat! I like Jeffrey Preece's comment about 'dusting off one of Frank's' guitars and taking it out on tour-but I understand why that won't happen. How's about a pic of the 'Orange Pumpkin' guitar that was given to you in Seattle in Dec. of '08?
Dweezil,

Love the Fender custom shop stratocasters especially the Masterbuilt ones like mine built by John Cruz :)
What does TLC means??

I really like the Relics, if only for the necks. I like the feel of no finish...less sticky.

Lovely piece of equipment. Bring it along.
I might play it live. It needs a little TLC to get it up to touring status. DZ
I like this guitar. Could you, would you play it live?
Nice axes! I have a new personal favorite, & if Santa doesn't bring me one the reindeer is gonna get it. This has got to be one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. I can't wait to play one.
